Game over… Cingular Sync A707 Diagnostic Menu found!!!
Okay folks, I’m not sure how much this is going to help but I’ve found a way to get to some type of diagnostic menu. Like any program, someone left a hole. It appears this is the only way to get to diagnostic menu at the moment.
A little rant on why I even started looking for the service code:
Since the launch of the Cingular Sync, people have been complaining on websites across the “internets” because Cingular (excuse me…AT&T) decided to lock the phone down in a retarded manner. You know that most phones come with wallpapers and ringtones, right? On the Sync, you can’t delete them! You can’t move, edit, or organize them at all. This REALLY gets in the way of your own stuff on the phone.
Even worse, your wonderful phone company decided to put some service numbers in your contact list that you can’t edit, delete, or move! Do I need to always have the number to check my bill balance? Perhaps, but put it in it’s own folder..
That’s right, suck it up consumer. We’ll put these things on your phone because we feel like it. Most of these items don’t actually make us any money (unlike MediaNet stuff), we just want to be retarded.
/End Rant
Well, this is where I come in. I don’t care how long it takes, either I’m going to fix it or Cingular will. I’m presently searching for a way to either access the full “Service Menu” or dump the firmware so I can modify it and release the code. What’s my problem? I’m new to the Cingular game and haven’t purchased a USB cable to do most of the work. I have yet to see a phone that can backup it’s firmware over bluetooth.
This is where I’m asking for the help of the howardforums folks. If someone can use this menu to exploit the rest of the phone, it’s game over. I’ve found some interesting stuff so far, one in particular is the DIAG Configuration/ Qualcomm USB menu. I’m not sure if this can be used to restore/backup firmware but let’s work together to find out.
Open the phone. Type this exactly as shown from the dialing menu.
*#0523#
It will bring you into a menu to adjust the contrast of the front LCD. Hit either the # key or the softkey normally used for “Back” in most menus. After hitting four or five times, it will bring you out to the top diagnostic menu.
You will be presented with the following menu if you backed up far enough.
[1] Debug Screen
[2] Version Information
[3] RF Test
[4] UMTS rf nv
[5] Read gsm rf nv
[6] Write gsm rf nv
[7] Band Base
[8] Audio
[9] Common
There is a LOT of information to be found in these menus. In particular, it appears you can adjust the sound quality and volume for the phone. Can the digg community and howard forums work together to exploit this menu?
No complaining about the quality of the video. I know you can’t read the menus, I’m just showing people an example.
